Sergi Bujosa

I obtained my Bachelor’s (2017) and Master’s (2018) degree in chemistry at the University of the Balearic Islands. Then I started my PhD at the Supramolecular Chemistry group of the UIB under the supervision of Dr. Carmen Rotger and Dr. Bartolomé Soberats. My research activity focusses on the development of squaramide based supramolecular assemblies, such as hydrogels, supramolecular polymers, and liquid crystals. Our main interest rely on the development of stimuli responsive materials and que generation of supramolecular polymorphism. So far, I have published on 3 articles in peer reviewed journals and I attended 3 conferences where I presented posters.

Eduardo Castellanos

I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (2017) and master’s degree in Chemical Science and Technology (2018) at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). In September 2017 I obtained a 15-month contract as “Programa SOIB Joves Qualificats” of the “Govern de les Illes Balears” as a technician. In December 2018 I started my PhD at the University of Balearic Islands under the supervision of Dr. Bartolomé Soberats and Dr. Carmen Rotger. In September 2020 I was appointed Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry at the University. During this period, I carried out one predoctoral stay in Laboratory of Macromolecular and Organic Materials (LMOM) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) under supervision of Prof. Holger Frauenrath (July 2019 to September 2019). My PhD project focuses on two topics: development, synthesis and characterization of i) thermoplastic polymers and ii) uncommon assemblies in liquid-crystalline dyes.

Llorenç Rubert

My research experience began in the summer of 2018 when I obtained a collaborating student scholarship from the Ministerio de Educación y Cultura. During this period, I carried out a research project in the supramolecular chemistry group at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) under the supervision of Prof. Antonio Costa. This research consisted of the design, synthesis and subsequent studies of systems based on cyclic squaramide’s for the formation of supramolecular aggregates. These results were presented in my baschelor thesis «Cyclic squaramide’s: synthesis and aggregation studies» which was defended in July 2019. I continued my studies at the University of Barcelona where I carried out the master’s degree on the topic of “Fawcettimine Lycopodium Alkaloids” in the Sintefarma group under the tutelage of Rosa Griera. Currently, I am carrying out my PhD studies (FPI-CAIB research fellow) in the supramolecular chemistry group at the UIB under the supervision of Dr. Bartolome Soberats. My PhD project focusses on the development of non-conventional liquid crystals systems for optoelectronic applications.

Pedro Ximenis

I obtained my bachelor’s degree in chemistry (2022) at the University of the Balearic Islands where I started my research in the synthesis of new liquid crystalline materials under the supervision of Dr. Bartolomé Soberats. Then I obtained my master’s degree in molecular Nanoscience and Technology (2023) at the University of Valencia, where I continued the research on the same field under the supervision of Dr. Juan Aragó in collaboration with Dr. Soberats at the UIB. Moreover, I worked in Dr. Soberats group as support technician while I was doing my Master Thesis. Finally, in November 2023 I started my PhD with a FPI-CAIB research fellow under the supervision of Dr. Soberats in the UIB. The project is focused on the synthesis and development of non-convectional liquid-crystalline materials for organic and photovoltaic optoelectronics applications. Currently I have attended two international congresses, one with poster contribution and the other with flash-oral communication contribution.

Daniel Martínez

I obtained my bachelor’s degree in chemistry (2018) and master’s degree in chemical science and technology with a specialization in organic chemistry (2020) at the University of the Balearic Islands. Both my final degree and Master thesis were focused on the synthesis of silver and iridium complexes with modified adenines under the supervision of Dr. Ángel García Raso. In November 2020 I moved to Castilla-La Mancha University (Ciudad Real) to work as support staff at QuiCap research group under the supervision of Dr. Blanca Rosa Manzano studying new iridium complexes for photochemotherapy. In 2022 I came back to Mallorca and got a 12-month contract as a supporting investigator staff in the “SOIB Investigación e Innovación” program under the supervision of Dr. Bartolomé Soberats. After that in October 2023, I started my PhD with a FPI (Formación de Personal Investigador, Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) grant, also under the supervision of the aforementioned, and focused on dye-aggregate liquid crystal composites and liquid crystal real-time phase transitions. Currently, I have published on two articles and attended four conferences, two with oral communication and two with poster contributions.
